Do UGLY websites really sell?:
There is no limit to how many UGLY sites are out there. It’s rare that you run into a clean well-designed site. I search Google a lot, like everyone else because I need information or am trying to find something and when I do find it; it’s like, What the HECK were you thinking? It really seems like people are intentionally designing them UGLY. You know the ones with 9 different fonts, 20 different colors and every thing is bold. Why? Do nicely designed websites scare people away? One thing for sure, ugly websites do sell. In this case it’s beautiful. But why are they so successful? There is more to these ugly websites than just looking ugly. They all have one thing in common, they are very easy to use.
But wait. So should all design firms focus on designing ugly websites? Do you want an ugly website? I think not. Why can’t you have the best of both worlds? Look good and be functional. There is a way. Ugliness should not apply to all sites. Good designed websites don’t need to be complicated or have the extra graphics. They just need to be well designed and follow simple design rules and principles. A nice simple layout with a clear focus on the easy to use navigation, some great coordinated colors, clear readable text and explaining clearly on the landing page what the purpose of the website is. That’s the secret formula to successful and functional websites.
Ugliness doesn’t sell, rather simplicity and easy of use does. This keeps the users coming back to your website. Websites are tools that are used by people to obtain information, download files, shop for products, read the news, communicate etc… Likely you would want to give them the most enjoyable experience possible.
Take a quick moment to look through your website. Do you really find it easy to navigate? Can it be improved or refined? Is your ‘call to action’ clear to your users? Are they doing what you want them to do? If you need help determining that, just drop us a quick email. We will be happy to make recommendations to help ensure your website’s success.
